This curious palm grows with its trunk lying on the ground or under the ground so it looks like a trunkless palm but it aint. It grows in wetlands, hardwood hammocks, pine flatwoods and on dunes. Go walking through a clump of them and you’ll know why the word "saw" in in the name. This example of Serenoa repens was shot in digital infrared at Blue Springs State Park in Volusia County, Florida.
